Start a Texas SNAP application at Your Texas Benefits. SNAP helps eligible households pay for groceries. Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC) decides eligibility and issues benefits through the Lone Star Card.

Apply and keep your confirmation

The state portal lets you submit an application, upload documents, and check your case. Its office finder and paper forms offer other ways to get started. Save your application confirmation and check for requests from HHSC.

What to have ready

If a document is missing, ask HHSC how to provide it and follow the deadline on your notice. Do not send benefit applications, Social Security numbers, or EBT card details to this directory.

If you have very little food or money

Ask HHSC to screen your household for expedited SNAP. Texas has faster processing rules for households meeting its income, resource, and expense tests. Timing depends on the interview and required verification; an application here does not guarantee an immediate payment.

Texas's standard SNAP application rules generally use a 30-day processing period. Check your notice and contact HHSC if you are waiting on a decision.

How to check your Texas SNAP application status

  1. Open Your Texas Benefits and sign in to check your case.
  2. Without an account, use the state's Check Application Status page. It asks for the main contact's first and last name and the application ID.
  3. Read any requests for documents or an interview and follow the deadline on the notice. Keep your submission confirmation; it is not an approval.

If you cannot find your case or need a notice explained, call 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905. Choose your language, then option 2 for benefits help. Keep personal case information in the state portal, not this directory.

SNAP notices, award letters and proof of benefits

Need a SNAP award letter or proof of benefits? Ask HHSC for the notice documenting your SNAP decision. Its SNAP renewal guidance identifies the decision notice as Form TF0001, Notice of Case Action, and a request for information as Form H1020. A request for documents is not an approval.

Check your mail and your account's Message Center. The official account-help page explains paperless letters and alerts. If you cannot locate a notice, ask HHSC for a copy. If another organization asks for proof, confirm which document it accepts; this guide cannot issue an award letter.

How to renew Texas SNAP benefits

Follow your renewal notice's due date. In the English portal, look under Manage for Ready for renewal, select that case, then choose Renew Benefits. Review your household information, update it as needed and submit. Renew even if nothing has changed; saving a draft is not submitting it. See the official renewal instructions.

Track the renewal under Case Activity and Renewals. A received or reviewed renewal is not, by itself, confirmation that SNAP was approved. Check the SNAP decision in your case and respond to requested documents or interviews. If the deadline has passed or you cannot renew online, contact HHSC promptly; continued benefits are not guaranteed.

Get help with an existing card

For Lone Star Card problems, call 800-777-7328 or use the Your Texas Benefits app. For an application question, use the state portal or 211 Texas at 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905.

Food while you wait

Look for a pantry or meal program. Ask about the next distribution, the area served, appointments, and documents before traveling. Each provider sets its own intake process. Stores in the SNAP filter sell groceries; they are not free-food pickup sites.

Waiting for a SNAP decision in Fort Worth, San Antonio or Houston? Compare pantry and meal listings in your city, then call the provider before traveling. These are food-help listings, not SNAP application offices or confirmed pickup appointments.
